Area Information – Cranbrook

Nestled between the Purcell Mountains to the west and the Rocky Mountains to the north and east Cranbrook enjoys mild winters and more sunshine hours than any other BC city.

Positioned in the southeast corner of beautiful British Columbia Canada, the City of Cranbrook is in the heart of the East Kootenay region. Only 45 miles from the US/Canada border, the City has immediate access to western US, Alberta and British Columbia centres.

Jimsmith Lake is located on the southern edge of town – close enough for convenient access to shopping but far enough for true lake front relaxation and fun.
The Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park spans half the lake and is popular for campers. The summer activities enjoyed at the warm spring fed lake include swimming, picnicking, canoeing, birdwatching, kayaking and boating. Only non-motorized boats are permitted on the lake.

During the winter, after the snow has fallen and temperatures have dropped, the lake freezes over and transforms itself into an ice skating rink while the nearby hills become toboggan runs.

Fishing is very successful from the private Cranbrook Lake House swim platform which is anchored at the point where the lake gets deep or by trolling.  Fishing on Jimsmith Lake provides an opportunity to catch big mouth bass, rainbow trout and perch.

How to Get to Jimsmith Lake:

Travel Highway #3/95 to the south side of the community of Cranbrook. Turn onto Jim Smith Lake Rd and continue driving east for 4 kilometres to the Jimsmith Lake. Enjoy!
